Dr. Leann Sargeant joined USDA-APHIS in the Southern California region, where she spends her days inspecting facilities and enforcing the Animal Welfare Act. She earned her DVM degree from Kansas State University and completed a rotating equine internship in the Seattle area. Prior to joining the USDA, she worked in private practice for approximately 10 years in equine and small animal practice in the San Diego area. She joined USDA as a supervisory public health veterinarian at FSIS in 2019 and then joined the EIAO (Enforcement, Investigations, and Analysis Officer) team in 2020 as part of the Alameda District. With FSIS, she conducted investigations, recalls, and traceback investigations for food safety pathogens. In addition, she joined the adjunct trainer team in 2021 and taught various classes to incoming FSIS inspectors and PHVs.
