Dr. Emily Trumbull (she/her) graduated from Western University of Health Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine. In March 2023, Dr. Trumbull joined the County of San Diego, Public Health Services, Epidemiology Unit. Since that time, she has been working with physicians, veterinarians, epidemiologists, nurses, and laboratorians to develop the One Health Epidemiology Program. Dr. Trumbull continues to practice as an aquatics and wildlife veterinarian.

This talk will give a brief history of the disease and an overview of the virus itself. This session will also provide a local public health perspective on rabies regulations, prevention, and response.

Avian Influenza at the Human-Animal Interface with Julie Breher, DVM, MPVM

The current H5N1 outbreak is affecting hundreds of species and millions of animals. Scrutinizing the human-animal interface will allow for more enhanced public health surveillance while expanding our awareness of disease in both wildlife and domestic animals. This talk provides an example of what can be pursued at the local level to help safeguard both human and animal health.

One Health Case Discussion with Julie Breher, DVM, MPVM

One Health is a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach that aims to achieve optimal health outcomes by recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment. In this session, we will give examples of zoonotic disease cases and demonstrate how a One Health approach was used to navigate to successful outcomes.
