Beyond the ACVIM Consensus Statement: Updates on Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of Leptospirosis in Dogs
Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the spirochete Leptospira. Despite the availability of vaccines, outbreaks continue to occur in unvaccinated dog populations in the United States. Weaving in case examples, this talk reviews the importance of understanding the difference between reservoir hosts and incidental hosts, how dogs can become infected, what clinical signs that should alert you to leptospirosis, how new diagnostic tests should be used, and the best approaches to treatment and prevention of the disease. |
