Sudden and Pseudo-Sudden Blindness
A very common chief complaint from the owner is “sudden blindness” in their pet. In many cases, these patients with so-called sudden blindness actually have had an ongoing problem that the owner did not recognize until the disease had reached a point that seemed to cause the dramatic decline in vision—i.e. pseudo-sudden blindness. This presentation will discuss diseases that cause true sudden blindness so that they can be differentiated from chronic disease states that have appeared to cause the recent, dramatic change in vision.

Cataract Confusion Clarified! What IS that Cloudy Eye?
Not every cloudy eye is a cataract, although the general public and some general practitioners often confuse a cataract with other causes of the cloudy eye, such as nuclear sclerosis, glaucoma, and corneal endothelial dystrophy. We will spend time differentiating a true cataract from age-related nuclear sclerosis. We will also review video clips that will help the general practitioner understand what is involved with cataract surgery so that they can better educate clients on preparation for surgery and be informed of the required after-care.
