About

Dr. Michael Jaffe graduated with his DVM degree from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and his Master’s degree from Louisiana State University. He practiced for 17 years in specialty surgical practices. Dr. Jaffe is currently an associate professor of small animal surgery and service chief of small animal surgery at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2002 and a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner in 2017.

This lecture covers the basics of a good orthopedic exam in small animals. It includes differential diagnoses for specific orthopedic exam findings that will help clue the practitioner into making an accurate diagnosis. Several videos are included to show practitioners how to perform certain exam techniques.

The Art and Science of Small Animal Gait Exam

This presentation describes techniques to perform an accurate and complete gait exam. It includes specific findings demonstrated with videos that will assist practitioners with identifying certain characteristic gait abnormalities seen with specific orthopedic disease. It also includes information about advanced diagnostics used to further detect lameness and assess progress.

Feline Orthopedic Exam

This lecture covers tips for performing a good orthopedic exam on cats. Included is a discussion of the most common orthopedic injuries seen in cats, as well as medical management of osteoarthritis and a discussion of sedation for performing the exam when needed.

Canine Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Techniques

This lecture discusses principles of physical therapy and rehabilitation, including a discussion of the different modalities available and how to choose what to do, when to do it, and how to perform them. Laser therapy, therapeutic ultrasound, treadmill, underwater treadmill, e-stim, massage, range-of-motion exercises, and follow-up guidelines are included for patients following common orthopedic injuries and surgeries.

Multimodal Management of Canine Osteoarthritis

This session discusses the diagnosis and non-surgical management of canine osteoarthritis. Multimodal management and other treatment options will be discussed. Surgical management is only briefly discussed. This session is for all small animal practitioners who see arthritic canine patients in their practice.

Canine Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation for the Small Animal Practitioner

This lecture covers the principles of physical therapy and rehabilitation for the practitioners who do not have access to the many modalities used in a rehab practice. Many of the tips and guidelines discussed will cost the practitioner and client no money but are useful for rehabbing patients. Included is a discussion of exercises to build endurance, strength, range of motion, and proprioception. The tips can be used by vets, staff, and clients immediately without having to spend anything to do them.
