Did you know that only about 30% of pet owners acquire their pets from animal shelters and rescues, and about 10-15% acquire their pets from breeders? The majority of pet owners acquire their pets from family members, friends, and neighbors. Community and trust play significant roles in how pet owners choose where to get their pets as well as how they get care for their pets. Cultural Responsiveness: Moving from Saviorism to Partnership
Taking care of animals and pets is a love shared across cultures, races, ethnicities, and countries. With growing diversity within our communities and the limited capacity of veterinary clinics, it’s more important than ever to connect with people who care for their pets. Providing culturally responsive services grounded in understanding, listening, and one-on-one connection can open doors for more partnership with pet owners, resulting in better outcomes for pets. In this session, we’ll dive into cultural responsiveness with practical examples of how to apply this in your setting.
