About

Dr. Ashley Patterson is currently the Associate Director of Operations for the California Veterinary Emergency Team (CVET). She received a DVM degree from Washington State University and an MPH from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Patterson worked as an emergency management planning consultant for several years prior to attending veterinary school and has been involved in veterinary disaster training and best practice development with organizations like Texas A&M University, the National Veterinary Response Team, and the National Alliance of State Animal and Agricultural Emergency Programs.

CVET Overview and How Local Practitioners Can Be Involved with Their Community

This talk will give an overview of the creation of the UC Davis California Veterinary Emergency Team (CVET), the team’s role in disaster response operations, and CVET’s capabilities. We will also discuss how you as a local practitioner may get involved (voluntarily or by circumstance) and what actions you can take to be prepared.

Current Animal Disaster Response Resources in CA

In this talk, we will review the current findings of the CVET County Outreach Campaign, meeting with animal services representatives, county emergency management officials, and local animal disaster response team members to understand their current capabilities, resources, strengths, and potential areas of improvement. We will discuss how understanding the current capabilities of animal disaster response operations helps us prepare for future disasters.
